Some door locks use deadbolt locks to secure them while other storm doors use a lock where the key plug is part of the handle used to open the door.
Take lock off storm door.
Step 2 take the door off its hinges.
Remove the lock body from the storm door by pulling down from the top of the casing with your finger or the tip of a flat head screwdriver.
Once the door is no longer connected to the frame you ll be able to slip it out of the opening and remove the lock from the interior side.
Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door.
If the lock body doesn t pop out easily you can also insert a screwdriver into the hole in the door and into the key mechanism to help pry it out.
Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware.
Remove the lock body.
Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the hole.
If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door.

Use a hammer and center punch to drive out the hinge pins if they are accessible.
Pretty scary thinking that storm door wouldn t open properly in case of emergency.
